Hayle Towans is a large sandy beach located at the eastern end of St Ives Bay, stretching for several miles along the coast and backed by extensive sand dunes. Known for its expansive sands, it provides plenty of space even at high tide, making it popular for walking, sand sports, and fishing. The dunes form a natural barrier and support a variety of plant and animal life.
The beach is noted for its suitability for surfing and bodyboarding, with consistent waves more suitable for beginners and intermediates. Kite surfing and windsurfing are also common activities, subject to appropriate conditions. The natural setting offers sweeping views across the bay toward St Ives and Godrevy Lighthouse.
Facilities are basic but include toilets at the car park and seasonal lifeguard presence. The surrounding Towans dunes are a distinctive feature, providing both shelter from winds and an interesting environment to explore. The beach is less commercialized than nearby strands, with fewer amenities immediately on site, offering a quieter experience overall.
