Porthkidney Sands is a spacious sandy beach stretching for roughly a mile at the mouth of the Hayle Estuary in west Cornwall. The broad tidal expanse gives the beach an open and remote atmosphere, making it suitable for those seeking a quieter alternative to busier nearby locations such as St Ives.
The beach is bordered by dunes and is popular for walking, kite flying, and dog-friendly activities. At low tide, the sandy area expands dramatically, but caution is needed near the estuary mouth due to strong currents.
There is minimal commercial development nearby, preserving a more natural feel. Basic facilities are limited to toilets at Lelant, and there are no shops or cafés directly on the beach.
