Great Western Beach is a popular sandy beach located below the cliffs of Newquay, offering a well-sheltered spot ideal for families and swimmers. The beach is situated between Towan and Tolcarne beaches and is often linked to them at low tide, creating an extended sandy area.
The gently sloping sands are backed by rugged cliffs, and natural rock pools can be explored at low tide. Due to its position, the beach is less exposed than other Newquay beaches and is often favoured for its slightly calmer surf conditions.
Facilities at the beach include a seafront café, public toilets, and a surf school offering lessons and equipment hire, making it a convenient spot for first-time visitors and those wishing to try water sports. The beach is lifeguarded during peak season, enhancing safety for swimmers and surfers.
