Tolcarne Beach is a popular sandy beach located on the northern coast of Newquay, known for its panoramic views of the Atlantic. Sheltered by high cliffs, the beach is well suited for families, with seasonal lifeguards on hand and safe bathing at mid to low tide. The area is favoured by surfers and bodyboarders, especially at mid-tide, and there is a reputable surf school with lessons and equipment for hire during the summer.
Facilities include a café serving refreshments, toilets, and a promenade with shops. Access to the beach is via a lengthy flight of steps, so it may not be suitable for visitors with limited mobility. During summer, the beach can get busy, but quieter spots may be found at lower tides or away from main access points.
Tolcarne is adjacent to other central Newquay beaches but maintains a distinctive character due to its sheltered position and the presence of natural tidal pools formed among the rocks at low water.
